Crash of live poker in LV.
A friend who has played poker in LV for a long time sent me the following email which I'm posting w/his permission:
POKER ROOM CLOSURES
Jan 25 (2 days ago)
"The Quad (Linq) has closed it's poker room. Likewise the Palms and Texas Station. That will break TBC's heart, as he seemed to love the hour long bus ride to T.S, to find one four handed game that soon breaks.
Seems like a repeat of 20 years ago. Rumors are flying and bets are being made. Favorites to close soon are Hooters and T.I. as both struggle to keep one game going. Hilton is also mentioned.
I'm surprised the closures took this long to happen, but now the bean counters around town see rooms closing they will take a harder look their own room costs and lack of profits. Someone said that the Excalibur is also struggling most days to keep one game going, and has been put on notice by upper management.
Mandalay Bay has laid off some dealers as they are struggling even on weekends. And The Mirage is closed until May for downsizing and getting new decor. This is a good move as they are going from 18 tables down to twelve and (like Caesars), will not look as dead on slower nights. I guess the poker boom is officially over!"
He made a list: (using old names of some casinos)
Sante Fe Station
Az. Charlie's [I'm not sure which one or if both]
Also Bluff magazine out of business.
